And the cold weather has hit Milan!

These last few days the temperatures have been around 0 celsius day and night, so you can only imagine my joy in taking the dog out at 7 am in a freezing -4 celsius ๐Ÿ˜€ I bundled up nicely, and kindaย felt like a sausage with all those layers, but at least I was worm!

Since the cross-country ski world cup has moved to another city, no one was on the snow this morning so Daigo and I took advantage of it en route to the dog area.

Daigo absolutely loves the snow, and started running like crazy as soon as we got on it!

I spent haf of my day studying and the other half cooking a few things that will soon be posted online.

Then, before I could actually think about it, I got in sweaty dirty freshly washed running clothes and set out for a run; I knew that if I stopped to think about it even for a moment I would skip it because the idea of running in 0 ยฐC wasn’t exactly appealing to me ๐Ÿ˜€

I ran for 7.60 Km (4.70 Mi) in 45.45 (ah!) minutes. It’s a lot, but actually I had to stop for a few of those minutes because I had a bad case of belly ache… I’m sure other lady runners will understand what I mean ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought running in cold weather I wouldn’t sweat a lot…silly me. Siiiilly meee. My body has the tendency to sweat a lot, and especially on my head underneath my hair, and, apparently, no matter what the temperature is, I end a run with hair literally dripping. I’m sure you’re all happy I shared this with you ๐Ÿ˜€

once I got home I saw there were two packages for me, an Amazon one and a IHerb one, and obviously couldn’t wait to open them, so I sat on the floor in my sweaty clothes and un-stretched muscles (I eventually did stretch them) and opened them. I don’t know about you, but I love to receive packages!

This is what they contained:

From the amazon order: it’s huge and it cost me a bit, but it was still a sweet deal and it will last me a life time, hopefully!

ย ย

Neither chia seeds or stevia can be sold in Italy, so I had to buy them online. If anyone has a good use for chia seeds, please link up! I only know of a few ways to use them.

These I obviously used imediately. What can I say? I almost screeched of joy when I noticed the shampoo lathers. None of the natural shampoos I’ve tried up to now lather; I’d almost given up hope! Plus they smell like coconut heaven! (Mattia, you’ll be happy :D).

In my IHerb order I also found a little gift:

Do they give these at every order? Because I kinda like it ๐Ÿ™‚

Are you a online shopper? If so, do you get excited when you receive something?ย

I’m quite the online shopper: it’s so much easier ( and lazier) and there is so much more choice! As for getting excited..well yes, I most certainly do ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bodyrock challenge

Hello to everyone, and Happy New Year!

I spent New Year’s at Mattia’s house, but now I’m back in Milan getting ready for an exam session.

And Getting back on the study track reminded my I should also get back on the fitness track, and abandon the chocolate track; our house is invaded in sweets and chocolate, you see: of the 772 chocolates my sister and I made, quite a few weren’t used for presents and, well, found a home in my stomach :D. Then we had some of this

Some of this at Mattia’s house

ย

I mean…How could I resist?

And Breakfast was more similar to desert than a normal breakfast…here’s a hint:

source

Ad to all these sweets the cold air that doesn’t quite invite you out for a run…and you’ve got a recipe for perfect laziness ๐Ÿ˜‰

So when I saw on itty bits of balance that Bodyrock was making a 30-day challenge, I jumped at the opportunity to workout without having to go out in the cold.

And since I have some sort of mental problem for which if I tell myself I’ll do something, I’ll most probably end up disobeying my own orders just to prove I can…

I’m not joking, I really do that ๐Ÿ˜€

Anyways, there’s a higher probability I’ll do this challenge if I tell someone else, so here I am!!

Today I started with the fit test, and here are my results:

50/10 interval workout

Squat jumps: 30

Push ups (girl style): 18

Burpees: 14

High knees: 53 for each leg

Switch lunges: 21 on each side

Tuck jumps: 13

Straight Abs: 18

I didn’t think I would be, but I was exhaustedย after all of that, much more tired that I usually am after my normal run. Which probably says a lot about me not pushing my runs to my limits ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m kind of excited though, and can’t wait to see what’s next!!

Weekend Recap

Hello! How was your weekend? I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Unfortunately, we don’t celebrate it in Italy, but I had friday off from lessons so I had a long weekend too.

Mattia came to Milan on friday and was supposed to leave today but the train drivers are on strike for the day, and his trains are the first ones to go! We had a really good time together: Friday night Mattia came with me to babysit, and we stayed there until 3.30! I was able to stay awake the whole time, Mattiafell asleep around 2 at night. To help us stay awake we watched a movie,ย Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King, which is quite the weird movie: the characters weren’t the most brilliant, so there were a few comic moments. At least it was 3 hours long and it help keeping us awake!

Yesterday we woke up late, trying to get some sleep in, then baked a little: I was trying to make a vegan chocolate salami with homemade cookies, but the result wasn’t what I wanted. It was good, but not what I wanted. Even though we were a bit tired we managed to take this big fury animal to the park for a run.

I tried running with him in the summer time but he just didn’t like it: he would pull on the leash and refuse to run. I think it was for the heat. But this week we went running twice and he loved it both times! So Mattia, Daigo and I set out for a little family run and run some 6 km, I’m not sure how much because I didn’t map my run nor had a watch with me, but we ran as long as we felt like it. It was a really good run!

To keep up with our active weekend, this morning Mattia and I went ice-skating! I hadn’t been on the ice for years, and for Mattia this was only is second time in life! It took me a while to feel comfortable in the skates but we had fun!

I still have a pair of skate my grandmother gave me (and my sister too) when I was smaller, and they still fit me! I love my skates ๐Ÿ™‚

for some reason my camera is not a fan of ice, thus the horrible quality!

How was your weekend?

I don’t know about you guys, but my older sister and I lovedย to play with mr. Potato Head.

source

What was especially fun was trying to place everyone of his body parts in his…back compartment?

That and misplacing is body parts…don’t try and tell me you never put an arm where is nose goes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Unfortunately, Mr. Potato, tired of being mistreated, moved on to a better home, but today my sister was able to find a decent substitute:

He’s not as versatile as Mr. Potato Head was, but he’s still a charmer ๐Ÿ™‚

So cute in fact that he was rescued from becoming our dinner, which consisted of this

Which, my dear friends, is how true pesto pasta should be! Pasta with boiled potatoes, string-beans and, obviously, pesto! It’s really good, you should try it!

Dessert was what my mom called “wacky cupcakes”, vegan! My sister made them, and they weren’t bad!

What was left of them ๐Ÿ˜€

ย Tonight I had ballet lessons but i skipped again – sort of bugs me – because my tailbone has been aching. Thank’s to it my activity levels have been extreemely low, so I’ve decided that, starting tomorrow, I’ll start swimming once a week! I love swimming but am terrible at it, which is the main reason I never go; I’m a bit afraid of judgement, you see :). But I was once terrible at running and afraid of exposing myself and feared what other runners might have thought about me; but I conquered my fear and now love it and am not that terrible anymore…or was, at least, thanks to you tailbone! Plus actually writing on my blog that I’ll be swimming tomorrow and every following wednesday…I can’t back out now!

What I ate Wednesday

And I finally manage to do another one correctly ๐Ÿ˜€ So let’s get on with it!

Breakfast was a bowl of banana-pb oatmeal plus a square of a dessert I made yesterday; I had to taste-test it again, you see ;). Rest assured I enjoyed more pieces throughout the rest of the day!

Plus a glass of juice not pictured.

Lunch was enjoyed in the fantastic land of college, and was composed of spinach, tomatoes, carrot sticks with hummus, bread and a kiwi..again not pictured, because I decided to take it later on and was too lazy to take my camera out again; sorry for the blurry picture ๐Ÿ˜€

Dinnah was more bread and hummus with pesto pasta. No picture for that, sorry ๐Ÿ˜‰

The rest of the day (when I wasn’t eating) was enjoyed (sort of) going to class on my oh-not-so-light typical day of 3 different classes, plus taking for a walk this furry dude in the park.

Unfortunately that was my only physical activity for the day: I’ve been having some problems with my back and pain in my tailbone, so running has been checked off my list of to-do things for some time, until it goes away; now I only have ballet class twice a week and I’m feeling the need to find some other form of activity: weight training is pretty much out of the question, I’m not really a fan, so I think I’ll resolve to stretching and yoga.

Any suggestions as to what I could do are much appreciated ๐Ÿ˜‰

Double Dog Duty

Hello y’all!

My day as been pretty busy: after fueling myself with a baked oatmeal and a raspberry yogurt (This picture is from another day, but you get the idea, right?), I head out with the dog for an hour-long walk, part of which was spent in the dog-area. For these last two days I’ve been on DDD -Double Dog Duty – which means an hour-long walk at 7.30 am and an hour-long walk in the afternoon! I know a lot of you are used to it, but I usually only take him out once a day at most, sometimes I’m lucky enough to skip a day! Thankfully, after my second walk with him I still have enough energy to go out for a 5 km run! Some roasted red bell pepper and basil hummus with bread helped ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is what my sisters tell me when i make hummus…Fools ๐Ÿ˜‰

The run felt great, I was able to run my 5 km in 27 minutes, which is a new record for me! Somewhere within me I then found the energy to do some ab workout and some push ups. I’m exhaustedย but very happy :).

Whenever I’m out running and I’m in a good mood, I always want to start dancing and singing out loud the song I’m listening too..but unfortunately that isn’t one of the best things to do in a park full of people; I already draw enough attention when I’m out with the dog and always talking to him, commenting on flowers, trees, other dogs…don’t give me that look, I know all of you dog owners do that to ๐Ÿ˜‰ (you do, right?)

Going on to less insane things, I announce to you that tomorrow will bring a gingerbread cookie recipe..stay tuned!

A lazy day

Today was one of those lazy days that ends in an active way: I was supposed to study for my upcoming biochemistry exam but I didn’t do much; I’m still not back in study mode ๐Ÿ™‚

But after all the laziness of the day I (finally!) cleaned the bathroom and decided to go out on a run: I had planned to run for 3 miles but after 20 minutes I found myself out of breath and had to stop. I guess I’m a bit out of practice, plus the air here were I live is really stuffy. It still felt like a nice run and it made me happy. I came home listening to music on my Ipod and wishing I were alone so I could sing and dance in the streets: although I admit I did mimic the song words when there was no one in sight ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

once home I decided to do some abs, push-up and bicep curls since my run wasn’t as long as I had hoped. After that I was finally ready for a nice shower and dinner! Plus some ice-cream for dessert ๐Ÿ˜‰ .
